I’m Andrew Thompson, a freelance journalist with two decades of media and writing experience, based in Cape Town, South Africa.

I’m currently the freelance travel writer for News24, South Africa’s largest news website. I also contribute travel content to various local and international publications.

I write business features for various financial publications, including Business Insider, Financial Mail, Currency, and News24 Business.

And I consult directly for businesses looking to improve their content. In the last two decades I’ve worked with global e-hailing companies, tourism boards, fintech firms, supermarket groups, luxury lodges, and financial institutions.

In 2024, I won a regional Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award in the category of Innovation in Journalism for an article exposing price matching by South Africa’s largest online store on the morning of Amazon’s local launch.

And in 2021, I conceptualised topics and wrote all content for Nedbank’s Bigger Picture campaign, which won an IAB Bookmark award for Digital Content Marketing.

I’m a regular guest on radio and occasionally television, where I discuss various topics usually off the back of articles I’ve written.
